There have been many questions about the cost of all of the by-election candidate campaigns especially since some candidates seem to be spending much more than others. There are campaign signs flooding the streets, advertising on social media and in The Liberal, printing and mailing of flyers, and after parties, all things that cost a lot of money. Ultimately the more money a candidate can fundraise for their campaigns the more signs and full page ads they can buy.
There is a maximum as to how much they can spend on their campaign and that amount set by the Clerk per the Elections Act.
A candidate can lose their elected position if they are found in contravention of these rules.
