Recap
Request for Endorsement – Affordable Housing Strategy - View report here - Passed
Good news the Affordable Housing Strategy was endorsed!
In Favour DiPaola, Chan, Liu, Muench, Cilevitz and West
Opposed Perrelli and Beros
The motion was amended by Councillor Muench in an effort to speed up the process by having a task force report back by March 30, 2022 with actionable items on housing affordability. The amendment also passed (Perrelli and Beros voted against)
Albeit that many other communities in York Region and elsewhere have developed Affordable Housing Strategies Councillors Perrelli and Beros feel that Affordable Housing is the responsibility of the Region not the City of Richmond Hill
Perrelli said "I don't believe that the majority of Richmond Hill residents want to pay extra to help with the affordability of others" (2:08:06 Video Part 1)
Beros cited "I have not received any communication or phone calls from my residents asking for affordable housing in the Oak Ridges area"
