Mr. John Li and the Yonge Bernard Residents Association (YRA) have been fighting for many years to encourage council to adopt a reasonable growth plan for the the Yonge Bernard KDA. In 2017 a KDA Plan was agreed upon by the majority however when the current Richmond Hill council was elected in 2018 they discarded that plan. The revised 2020 KDA Plan which has no height restrictions and a greatly increased density was presented to council on May 13, 2020 and initially not approved and then after a number of closed meetings was reconsidered and then approved by the majority of council.
At this point the YRA felt that they had no recourse but to draft an email to Premier Ford, MPPs and Richmond Hill council members pleading for intervention as they felt that their voice and the voices of all Richmond Hillians were not being heard by Richmond Hill council and staff.
On Sunday May 31, 2020 the YRA organized a demonstration with over 100 concerned residents in attendance.
The unsolicited email below was sent to John Li by Deputy Mayor and Regional Councillor Carmine Perrelli the day after the demonstration. Why?
The email from Councillor Perrelli to Mr. Li was also sent to Premier Ford, MPPs, RH council Members and Commissioners, YRA members and a number of news outlets. Why?
